Color by DeLuxe???
or
Quo Vadis, Dye Transfer?

Film Courtesy of Doug Bull

From trailers for House of Bamboo, 1954, and Carousel, 1956. 20th Century-Fox's DeLuxe Labs had installed a dye transfer line in 1953 but the lure of cheap and easy Eastmancolor was too tempting and dye transfer never was put to use. Technicolor printed many trailers and more than a few copies of entire features for Fox, with no mention of the real source of the prints. The "CinemaScope 55" lettering is supposed to be bright yellow on a deep blue star field, and it probably was in 1956. The frame from House of Bamboo is pretty much unchanged over the past 47 years
